Oak Harbor Wellness

Frequently Asked Questions

You’ve got questions — we’ve got answers. And if you don’t find what you’re looking for here, you’re always welcome to schedule a free 15-minute consultation to see if we’re the right fit.

What can I expect during our 15 minute consultation call?

During our initial consultation call, we’ll talk about what’s been happening in your life and what’s leading you to consider therapy. We’ll explore the goals you have—or the areas where you’re simply hoping for more clarity or support.

Think of this call as an opportunity for you to get a feel for who I am and whether working together feels like a good fit. Feeling safe and comfortable with your therapist is essential, and this conversation helps us both determine that.

It’s also a time for you to ask any questions you may have, and I’m always happy to provide guidance or explain how the therapy process works.

Your first therapy session with me is designed to help you feel comfortable, supported, and understood. We’ll start by talking about what brought you to therapy, what you’re hoping to work on, and any goals or concerns you have. There’s no pressure to share everything at once—this is simply a gentle beginning.

Because I offer virtual therapy for women and couples across Texas, your first session will take place online in a secure, private setting. I’ll walk you through how the process works so you feel confident and prepared.

During this initial appointment, you can expect:

  • A relaxed, judgment-free conversation where you set the pace

  • Space to share your story, your struggles, or what’s been feeling heavy

  • Questions that help me understand your needs, background, and intentions for therapy

  • Clarification of your goals, even if you’re still figuring them out

  • A collaborative plan for how we can move forward together

Most importantly, this session is an opportunity for you to get a sense of my style and make sure you feel safe, heard, and supported. Many clients feel relief after simply taking this first step.

Therapy is a process we build together—and it starts with one conversation. When you’re ready, I’m here to help you move toward healing, clarity, and connection.

Individuals and couples may schedule sessions for either 55 minutes, 90 minutes, or 2 hours.

For fertility evaluations, time is a little more individualized, but typically sessions are about an hour to an hour and a half.

I’m not a sit-in-silence, nod-quietly kind of therapist. Many clients come to me after feeling unseen or unsupported in past therapy experiences, where they were expected to open up while receiving little guidance in return. That’s not how I show up.

My approach is active, collaborative, and deeply validating. I’m here to engage with you, offer thoughtful feedback, and work alongside you as you move toward the life you want. You’ll never be judged for being human—we all have moments, patterns, and experiences that shape us, and sometimes hold us back. Together, we’ll approach these with compassion while exploring healthier, more empowering ways forward.

I’m here to support you, challenge you gently, and walk with you every step of the way.

Oak Harbor Wellness is a private-pay practice, which means we don’t bill insurance directly. This allows us to keep the focus where it belongs — on you and your care — without the limitations that insurance coverage can place on treatment. That said, we never want cost to be a barrier. We provide a superbill after each session that you can submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement, and a limited number of sliding scale spots are available for those who need them. If you have questions about fees or want to talk through your options, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Most insurance plans don’t cover couples therapy. Insurance requires an individually identified client with a diagnosed mental health condition — and in couples work, the relationship is what’s being treated, not one person.

There are a couple of exceptions worth knowing about. If one partner has a diagnosed mental health condition that becomes the focus of sessions, some plans may provide coverage. Others will cover couples therapy billed under a relationship code (Z63.0) that doesn’t require a diagnosis at all, just an identified policyholder.

Because every plan is different, you are encouraged to call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask directly about couples therapy coverage and whether Z63.0 is a covered code. It’s a quick call that can save a lot of guesswork.

If you arrive more than 15 minutes late to your appointment, the session will be considered a “no-show,” and the full session fee will be charged to the card on file. This time is reserved specifically for you, and I hold it exclusively for your session.

Please note that if you are late, I’m unable to extend the appointment past the scheduled end time in order to remain on schedule for all clients. Thank you for understanding and respecting these boundaries.

You are always welcome to cancel or reschedule your session for any reason. To do so, please submit your request through the client portal at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment. Requests made with more than 24 hours’ notice will not incur a fee.

If a cancellation or rescheduling request is received less than 24 hours before your appointment, a $100 late cancellation fee will be charged. Thank you for honoring this policy and helping me maintain availability for all clients.
